Air Ambulance In-Network Services

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana encourages the use of in-network air ambulance providers when needed. Choosing an in-network option could save you thousands of dollars when using air ambulance services. This page explains what air ambulance services are and lists our in-network providers.

What is an Air Ambulance?

An air ambulance is used when a person who needs medical care must be transported over a long distance that can’t be covered by a ground ambulance. An air ambulance can be either a fixed-wing or rotor aircraft:

What is a fixed-wing aircraft?

A fixed-wing air ambulance is a small airplane. Airplanes are faster and can fly longer distances, but most often need a runway to take off and land.

What is a rotor aircraft?

A rotor air ambulance is a helicopter. Helicopters are slower and most often fly a shorter distance but are more flexible in where they can land and take off
